         Ode to Jem’s 40 Years

In the first 40 we watched you grow

A formidable caring soul in the Man we now know

Sometimes smiling and laughing but quiet inside

A volume of words in speaking eyes

Emerged from this little Boy inside his shell

A perfectionist spirit who would guess - pray tell

Coddle, as we must, to his kindred soul

Who else so graciously fills our bowl

He’s good at the Tai and the Spanish and such

But have him remember to call back, is too much

I guess we don’t know the ways with this boy

But let me say this, he brings us great joy

So let this beacon of kindness, no armor he wears

Creep into our soul like wondrous affairs

Give him our love and he always gives back

More than he took and that is a fact
